The On Your Mark Family

On Your Mark, Inc. has a long history of active involvement in our local community.

Community ActivitiesCommunity integration is an integral part of all On Your Mark Programs. Individuals learn how to make informed choices in order to decide how they would like to spend their time in the community. For example, each individual or group in our Day Habilitation Program is able to democratically choose where to shop in order to purchase supplies as needed from craft stores, supermarkets, and specialty shops. They are also encouraged to choose and frequent local restaurants for lunch once a week, and to take walks at many of our community’s local parks. Our individuals enjoy being able to interact and socialize with other members of their community.

Community ActivitiesOur participants and staff also take pride in volunteering and feeling good about their deeds as they are performed in an effort to enhance our community. On Your Mark has volunteered thousands of hours at Meals on Wheels, retrieving and delivering meals to elderly adults who are unable to cook for themselves. At the Staten Island University Hospital, individuals work clerical jobs such as reception, filing, and Xeroxing documents. At Snug Harbor and Fort Wadworth, our maintenance group cleans the grounds and exhibits as needed. At Miller Field, our participants maintain a garden 6 months out of the year, choosing what they would like to plant and harvest. Our individuals also manage and work in several On Your Mark Consumer Operated Businesses that serve the public, including our OYM Café, OYM Snack Zone, and Novel-Tee by On Your Mark.

As an agency, On Your Mark also services the community. We provide our swimming pool to the NYC Parks Department and train life guards, work with the Boy Scouts and Parks Department to organize events, support the Rising Stars Basketball Team for Staten Island youth, and offer inclusive Zumba classes to the community through Bubbles Playhouse. These services are provided for the benefits of both our individuals and our community.
